New York City Bans Certain Employers From Asking About Salary History

June 20, 2017

Starting October 31, 2017, NYC Employers are not able to ask applicants about their salary history.

Takes Effect: October 31, 2017
This past May, NYC set forth legislation that will ban employers from asking an applicant about a job applicant's current or historical salary compensation.

This new law does not apply to (1) internal job applicants seeking a transfer or promotion with their current employer, or (2) public employee positions for which salary, benefits or other compensation are determined under a collective bargaining agreement.
