Gambling Addiction Spurs Kingman, AZ Employee Theft

October 05, 2017

Kingman, Arizona Employee stole over $1 Million from the City via credit card expenses and misappropriation of funds.

Diane Maxine Richards, 60, was a former city employee in Kingman, Arizona. Between credit card expenses and misappropriation of funds, she stole over $1 million dollars from the City.

Ms. Richards apparently had a gambling addiction and improprieties in the city’s finances caused authorities to begin investigating her in 2015. She used a city credit card to pay for for personal expenses (which included car expenses, utility bills and cellphone bills) and misappropriated $991,227 from an employee benefits account. She would also use cash advances to gamble at numerous casinos.

In addition to being sentenced to 9.25 years in prison, she must also pay $1.1 million in restitution to the City and forfeit her retirement benefits.
